Steppenwolf are one of the big three proto-metal bands who, along with Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly set the stage for heavy metal. Like Iron Butterfly they are best known for one song, 'Born to be Wild', but also like them there is so much more to explore. 'Sookie Sookie', 'The Pusher', and the majestic 'Magic Carpet Ride' are all classics from a band that surprisingly has lived out to the present day in different permutations.

A new DVD has just been released,John Kay & Steppenwolf, A Rock & Roll Odyssey
