Newsflash ! Led Zeppelin To Go On Tour Without Robert Plant

Rock legends Led Zeppelin are planning to tour and record but without frontman Robert Plant.
Bassist John Paul Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought after Plant ruled himself out.

The last time the band performed together was at the O2 arena in London in December 2007.
Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John Bonham, would go back on the road.

'It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there' John Paul Jones

Jones, speaking at a guitar show in Exeter, Devon said: "We are trying out a couple of singers.
"We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there."

He said that he and guitarist Jimmy Page along with drummer Jason Bonham did not want a replica of Plant.

He said: "It's got to be right. There's no point in just finding another Robert.

"You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band.

"There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be on board."

He described the one-off show at the O2 as "wonderful".

He said: "The most pleasure is making music. I love listening to it, but nothing as much fun as having an instrument in my hand and communicating with people."

He said preparation for the London show had been "very hard work", but everything had clicked on the night.

"It felt like the next night of the last tour."

Jason Bonham has just announced on Detroit radio that he is resigning as drummer for Foreigner causing alot of stir about what he might do next ?

Apparently he said "I've been over to England a couple of times. I've been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do just do some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, but it will be something."

"My time with Foreigner is coming to an end. This is the first time I've talked about it. I leave at the end of this month so, I mean, I'm looking forward to taking some time out to be with the family really. Since I moved to America I've been on the road, so my first priority is to go and watch my kids grow up, because they've grown up way to fast in the last four years."

Jimmy Page Becomes Dr ZeppelinThanks to University of Surrey

Jimmy Page has just become Dr Jimmy Page after The University of Surrey gave him an honorary degree of Doctor of the University.

The award was made at Guildford Cathedral, where Jimmy signed a guitarwhich will be given away at the GuilFest festival

Jimmy page also has OBE after his name, in recognition of his charitable work with the Action for Brazil's Children Trust, which supports the children of Rio de Janeiro's shanty towns.

Led Zeppelin with the Foo Fighters Now a Movie

The big news of this week, of course has been led Zeppelin's semi-surprise appearance with the Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium.

The response has been so amazing that 50 Vue Cinemas in the Uk will screen the gig at the mivies.

A Foo Fighters spokeperson said "These Wembley shows have been the most incredible experience of the band's entire career. They've never played bigger or better for a more insanely huge and appreciative crowd. It was an unforgettable occasion for everyone onstage and off."

Dave Grohl was pretty excited

"Tonight this will be the show we are talking about for the next 20 years."

The Daily Telegraph reports that in an interview after that concert, Page said the band were ready to reunite and perform more live events

He also said that fans could have to wait until Autumn 2009 due to the bands other projects

"Led Zeppelin" Join Foor Fighters Last Night June 7, 2008 at Wembley Stadium......Yes, A Led Zep FACT For Once !

Last night it seems there was a Led Zep Reunion Concert of sorts that amny of us missed, no hype, no viral internet rumours, well a few, but a real actual show.

Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones made Dave Grohl's dream come true by joining the Foo Fighters at the Wembley Stadium, (video here Blabbermouth.com) to play an encore of "Ramble On" and "RocknRoll"

Dave introduced them as follows:

"We're gonna do something we’ve never done at a Foo Fighters show and it's gonna blow your shit out the door! Tonight this is gonna be the show that we’re gonna be talking about for the next 20 years!"

Dave sang on Ramble on and FooFighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins sang on RocknRoll.

Now the only thing I want to know is what actually happens when "your shit gets blown out the door !"

Led Zeppelin Punjabi-Style: Teetotalling Sikh Priest Takes on Robert Plant !!!

WHAT does a teetotaller Sikh priest have in common with Led Zeppelin's frontman Robert Plant? Apart from long hair, not much, but this weekend Gurjit Singh, a priest at Turramurra's Sikh temple, will belt out Stairway To Heaven, Dazed And Confused and Kashmir.

With the Tinku Band, a group of Punjabi musicians in Sydney, the priest-turned-rocker combines Western music with Indian rhythms and instruments.

Before he arrived in Australia a few years ago, Singh had never heard of Led Zeppelin. These days, he has groupies, who approach him after concerts with tears in their eyes.

"Women come up to me and tell me they went to Zeppelin concerts years ago, and they get the same feeling from our performance," he said.

Classically trained to sing and play the tabla for Sikh hymns, Singh can reach the highest notes in Led Zeppelin's hits with ease. "He's got a range that's bigger than Robert Plant's in his heyday," says the band's lead singer, Tinku Grewal. But Singh is yet to embrace the rock'n'roll lifestyle. "He doesn't drink and he's pretty much a vegan," says Grewal. "When we're on tour, we wake up to him reciting hymns and meditating."

I found this fascinating piece of hardcore science recently while surfing the web;

An intensive series of studies carried out by Dorothy Retallack of Denver, Colorado, demonstrated the effects of different kinds of music on a variety of vegetables. The experiments were controlled under strict scientific conditions, and the vegetables were kept within large closed cabinets on wheels in which light, temperature and air were automatically regulated

She played the music of Led Zeppelin and Vanilla Fudge to one group of beans, squash (marrow), corn, morning glory and coleus; she also played contemporary avant-garde atonal music to a second group; and, as a control, played nothing to a third group. Within ten days, the plants exposed to Led Zeppelin and Vanilla Fudge were all LEANING AWAY FROM THE SPEAKER. After three weeks they were stunted and DYING. The beans exposed to the 'new music' leaned 15 degrees from the speaker and were found to have middle-sized roots. The plants left in silence had the longest roots and grew the highest. Further, it was discovered that plants to which placid, devotional music was played not only grew two inches taller than plants left in silence, but also leaned TOWARDS THE SPEAKER. Led Zeppelin Canada Dates Reunion Rumours Quashed

Yes, it's predictable, another Led Zeppelin reunion rumour trashed

The greatest band in the world won't be playing in Canada this Summer, as I reported a week or so ago

Debra Rathwell, aofAnschutz Entertainment Group Live: "Alison Krauss and Robert Plant are touring together till at least the end of July, and Plant has made it perfectly clear that he doesn't want to tour with Led Zeppelin."

She then teased by saying:

"Of course, stranger things have happened, but I can tell you that my office is not involved in any Led Zeppelin concerts in Toronto or anywhere else."

"Hey, Ahmet. We did it!" Led Zeppelin - London O2 Arena - Dec 10, 2007 Bootleg Review

Led Zeppelin's legendary manager, Peter Grant, waged open warfare against bootleggers and struck fear into many a heart. He's been dead for over a decade now, but I still check the doors whenever I play this double CD bootleg.

This recording of the entire Led Zep concert performance, from Block 421 at the O2 Arena, puts you right there in the audience, complete with a couple of prats chatting away annoyingly during a few songs, including the quiet opening bits of Stairway to Heaven. Like, oh yeah, it's just Led Zeppelin....we can hear them play again in another 30 years!

The first two songs, "Good Times, Bad Times and "Ramble On" sound perhaps a bit shaky, with Robert Plant testing his voice to see if he can still operate in Rock God mode. He can, but the really high notes are as gone as the colour in Jimmy Page's hair. That's life.......and they still sound bloody great!

What follows is a tight-as concert performance by three and a half of rock's biggest swinging dicks....young Jason Bonham, not yet fully qualifying, is totally on top of his role, hammering the kit just as crisply as Bonzo used to. Big underpants to fill but he's well on the way to being the full lunchbox.

The tempo of most songs is a little slower than we're used to but that's not to their detriment. In fact, it seems to emphasise their inherent power and beauty. The pitch is tuned down a little too, no doubt to fit Plant's present day vocal range.

This recording is the next best thing to being there. Peter Grant would hate it

More Rumours ? Led Zeppelin to Play Four Toronto Dates in August

The latest rumour about Led Zep reuniting is 4 dates planned for the Toronto Skydome/Rogers Centre this August. The Skydome is a massive venue that hardly operates as a rock venue nowadays because of the demands to fill it

Stay tuned for an official tour announcement, but for now start saving your dollars (cause you KNOW it's gonna be expensive)

On top of Robert Plant's website robertplanthomepage, it also says "Keep an eye out for Led Zeppelin Tour tickets in 2008!" (what could that mean ?), but not much else.

Oh Well ! David Coverdale and Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour Untrue

Well, it's no great surprise that the rumours of Whitesnake fronting the new led Zep Tour are untrue

David Coverdale was quoted widely on the net, saying he might be involved (including by us):

"What fucking world tour, we ask ourselves? We're already out on our Good To Be Bad world tour, thank you very much,"

"I have no idea where this started, but, with the wildfire of the internet, my poor ol' German publicist is fighting them off with her rusty, but trusty, Luger.

"I assure you there is no… (of course there fucking isn't) …any foundation in this.”

Oh well, it was a good thought while it lasted.

David Coverdale Leaks Details of Full Scale Led Zeppelin Tour ?

David Coverdale from Whitesnake, one time competitor and now friend of Robert Plant (he once called him David Coverversion) , told the press yesterday that a full scale Led Zeppelin Tour was “very likely”.

"I'm expecting a call from Jimmy any day asking my band Whitesnake to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions,” he said.

"Unlike rolling out the wheelchairs with the umpteenth Rolling Stones world tour, a Led Zeppelin tour will be incredible."

This is the clearest sign that the band will tour, up to this point they have said they would wait until September to make any announcement

Apparently if it goes ahead each member of Led Zep stands to make $ 10,000,000.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Play Led Zeppelin on Current World Tour !

News of a Led Zeppelin Reunion might be shaky but it seems you are in luck if you have tickets to see Robert Plant and Alision Krauss. They are currently on their Raising Sand Tour, have completed a few shows in the US and now head off to Europe before returning to the States in late Summer (with T-Bone Burnett).

It seems the pair are playing a series of led Zep numbers on this tour

Robert Plant:

"We're doing 'Black Dog.' I think we're doing some more obscure ones too. We're doing a couple of B-sides. We're doing 'The Battle of Evermore,' which is just mind-blowing. And that's something that Led Zeppelin never did live. So it's a great chance to do it now with Alison singing the Sandy Denny part. And of course she just kills it."

Both will also appear at the seventh Austin City Limits Music Festival, September 26th, 27th and 28th, Austin, Texas.

They also recently won "Wide Open Country Video of the Year" at the Country Music Television Awards recently for the song "Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)."

Page, Plant and Jones Reveal Plans For Led Zeppelin Reunion Far From Certain

The three members of Led Zeppelin are featured in the latest Uncut Magazine and reveal that plans for a reunion tour are far from certain.

Robert Plant "Hopefully, one day we could do it again for another really, really good reason... For people who came from Australia or Japan, to Jason (Bonham's) family, John's family, all the families -- anticipation and expectation was huge. The potential for failure was also great because nobody knew what it was going to be like."

John Jaul Jones"It felt like the first night of a tour. You think, 'Oh, I could do that bit better, or change something in that song.' And we didn't get a chance to do any more." "I'm not too certain about anything at the moment. I've got no idea what's going to happen, but I'd certainly like to play with Jimmy again."

Jimmy Page: "The focus was on the O2 show. That's what I had my focus on. As for Robert, he had a parallel project (with Alison Krauss) and it's been successful, which I suppose means he doesn't have time for Zeppelin at this moment. What I do know -- is at the rehearsals, and the O2 gig, we were really inspiring. Okay? That's all I'll say."

Jimmy also states that while the latest show was recorded there are no plans to release it on DVD

"It was recorded, but we didn't go in with the express purpose of making a DVD to come out at Christmas, or whatever. We haven't seen the images or investigated the multitracks. It's feasible that it might come out at some distant point, but it'll be a massive job to embark on."

Led Zeppelin- The Ride / Roller Coaster Opening May 8 2008

Well, many of you will know by now that Hard Rock are opening a classic rock theme park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA

I thought someone was pulling my leg when I first heard this, but then it is in the USA (no offense, but you guys are unique)

Apparently Hard Rock are auctioning tickets to be first on the Led Zep roller coaster (what ???), which is set to "Whole Lotta Love"

Winners also get a commemorative photo, park admission and autographed LED ZEPPELIN poster.
