Iron Butterfly To Release New Album in 2008 ?

Well, we cant have a 'Proto-Metal' Week without mentioning the kings of the genre, Iron Butterfly, the band who a best known for their 1968 hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

Their debut album was released in 1968, appropriately called 'Heavy', although the word had different connotations in those days.

VH1 has done the band an incredible diservice by naming them #19 on their one hit wonders list, (imbeciles), there so much more to the band than that one song ! (try Possession or Soul Experience, great tracks)

One of the reasons they might be thought of like this, however, is their poor management back in the late 60's. Apparently they were booked to play at Woodstock, but got stuck at an airport. When their manager called the promoters of the concert, they explained the incredible situation they had been dealt and asked for patience. The manager demanded that they be flown in by helicopter and then "immediately" take the stage. They never called him back.

Many of the original members have since died, although the band struggles on to this day. There is a rumor that they are working on a new album, due out this year, although it's pretty hard to verify

Know anything ?
