Rock Revival's Top Ten Fictional Bands

1. The Rutles


The movie, All You Need is Cash, tellsthe story of the Prefab Four starring Eric Idle from Monty Python. Their albums "Let it Rot" and "The Shite Album" are highlights. John Lennon loved the movie so much he refused to return the pre-release video that was sent to him.

2. Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem


The Muppet Show house band, included Animal on drums, Dr Floyd Pepper on bass and Zoot on sax.

3. Spinal Tap



Noel Gallagher once reported that his brother Liam saw the movie, loved it, and thought they were a real band

4. Josie and the Pussycats



Ok, sorry, loved it as a very small kid (same with the Muppets)

5. Mystik Spyral



Grunge band from the great MTV cartoon Daria


6. Otis Day and the Knights

From National lampoon's Animal House. Great versions of "Shout" and "Sham-a-la-ma-ding-dong"

7. Nightmare Cinema

Members of prog band Dream Theatre all playing intruments different from what they normally play. They only play Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers.

8. The Banana Splits

From the kids show The Banana Splits SAdventure Hour.....na na na nan nan na na na....

9. 2ge+her

Fictional MTV boy band. Their first single was U+Me = US

10. The Monkees

Well, it's true, they didnt know how to play. Once they learned nobody wanted to hear them.

The Rutles movie is one of the funniest of all-time. We just watched it for the first time with the kids and now they quote from it constantly.
