One of my favourite protest songs from the 60’s has to be Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire from the 1960’s. I know you know it !
Barry was a bit of a one-hit wonder: ‘Eve….” went to number 1 on the Billboard charts in 1965 and his powerful, angry voice against the Vietnam War is an unforgetable note in the history of American music.
McGuire became a born-again in 1971 and settled for a while in New Zealand with his NZ wife, returning to the US in ’96 to record 4 new albums.
Well, Barry is performing in Sydney on Febuary 19, 2008 at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre for his Trippin the Sixties Tour; he’ll play heaps of tracks from the period including California Dreaming, Tambourine Man, Woodstock, etc.
