Rock Revival's Forgotten Classics (1968): Sweetwater

Sweetwater Front

Sweetwater were a fantastic 60's psychedelic band

* They pioneered the fusion of psychedelic rock and classical music picked up by Jefferson Airplane.

* They were planned as the opening act at Woodstock but were trumped by Richie Havens.

* They toured with the Doors and Eric Burdon and the Animals, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Cream, the Grateful Dead, Big Brother & The Holding Co. w/ Janis Joplin, C S N & Y, the Who, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, Chicago, Chuck Berry, Spirit, the Allman Bros., E.L.P., Joe Cocker, War, Linda Rondstadt, Santana, Joan Baez

Their lead vocalist, Nancy Nevins, was hit by a drunken driver in 1969. She nearly died and was left with a severely damaged vocal cord. The band stayed together until 1971 but Nancy's prolonged recovery and other pressures forced them to stand down

Their first album is an absolute masterpiece of blissed out hippy psychedelic chamber music. It contains some of their best songs, Motherless Child, What's Wrong and In a Rainbow

Highly Recommended
