Definition of 'Pastoral' ?
  • pastorale: a musical composition that evokes rural life
  • bucolic: relating to shepherds or herdsmen or devoted to raising sheep or cattle; "pastoral seminomadic people"; "pastoral land"; "a pastoral economy"
  • a literary work idealizing the rural life (especially the life of shepherds)
  • arcadian: (used with regard to idealized country life) idyllically rustic; "a country life of arcadian contentment"; "a pleasant bucolic scene"; "charming in its pastoral setting"; "rustic tranquility"

There is quite a tradition of this in rock, in British folk-rock, primarily, but also in the more relaxed prog of Wishbone Ash, Camel, Barclay James Harvest; great music to sit back and relax, have a read of Gerard Manley Hopkins and Keats, well.. if your into that sort of thing
