Rock Revival's Classic Albums: Camel 'Mirage' (1974)

Camel is one of the lesser known 70's prog rock bands. It's probably not up there with the great prog albums of King Crimson, Yes and Genesis but I am recommending it for all those, who like me, have played the greats so much over the past 35 years that they tend to get predictable.

If your looking for something new Mirage is a great listen, one that is a little more accessible than their debut and less focussed on the complex guitar work alone.

There's strong pop-prog (Freefall), medieval Tull-like moments (Supertwister), Tolkien-style numbers and lots more instrumental work than vocals.

It sits nicely with Fairport Convention's Liege and Leaf or Wishbone Ash's Argus; relaxed folksy prog, definitely a band worth looking at.
