Allman Brothers Summer Series 2007: 71 Live Albums Released !!!!

The Allman Brothers, considered the most important Southern Rock band, came to fame after their third album, Fillmore East (1971) thrust them into the national limelight, cementing them in the history books as a one of the best blues-jam bands ever to hit the stage.

Duane Allman, master of slide guitar (please listen to the Duane Allman Anthology !) died soon after this album went gold in a motorcycle accident. Just over one year later Berry Oakley, bassist died in another accident, only three blocks from Duane.

The group went on to release many more excellent albums’s in the 70’s, Eat a Peach (Blue Sky, Little Martha), Brothers and Sisters (Ramblin Man, Jessica) and Win Lose or Draw.

They have reformed on and off since this time and the band now includes Butch Trucks, Derek Trucks (nephew of Butch and an excellent recording artist in his own right), Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes (of Jam Band Gov’t Mule).

The Allman Brothers have now released every one of their live concerts from 2007 on CD, an absolutely incredible 71 CD’s !

Yes that’s not a typo: 71 LIVE ALBUMS !

Sixty different songs are represeted, including some fascinating covers :”Lost Lover Blues,” “And It Stoned Me,” “Highway 61 Revisited,” “Come On In My Kitchen,” “Smokestack Lightning,”“Manic Depression,” “Lovelight,” and “Dazed and Confused.”

It is actually also possible to buy THEM ALL in a beautifully lined box for $A1800.00. Apparently they are only a few copies but, (even though the Allman Brothers are astounding with this line up), I find it pretty hard to imagine who would buy this much material all from one year.

Hello,

Love the Allman Brothers post, but I have two corrections for you. The bass player to die shortly after Duane was Berry Oakley and Derek is Butch's nephew. It's so nice to see them still touring after all this time. I hope Dickey and the band reconciles sometime soon though.
