Now here's a band that i really missed out hearing about, Phil Lynott's Grand Slam, formed in 1984, his post-Lizzy band who were also nearly named 'Reactor Factor', 'Catastrophe', 'Hell Bent On Havoc'
Phil had originally intended to include two members of the most recent Thin Lizzy lineup, guitarist John Sykes and drummer Brian Downey. Downey said no, saying he "didn't see the point in making a second-rate Thin Lizzy", and Sykesleft to join Whitesnake.
Lynott carried on regardless earning the nickname Sergeant Rock for his overbearing nature exhibited during recording sessions and rehearsals
Lynott was very keen to shed the 'second-rate Thin Lizzy' tag. Grand Slam only ever played 3 Lizzy songs: 'Cold Sweat', 'Sarah'and 'Whiskey In the Jar'
They split one year afrer forming due to lack of commercial success. One year later Phil Lynott was dead.
