What Do You Think Of The Rolling Stones Greatest 500 Albums of All Time ?

Image:500greatestalbumsofalltime.JPG

The most famous list of all rock lists has to be Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

Here are the top 10 entries

1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles
2. Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys
3. Revolver, The Beatles
4. Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan
5. Rubber Soul, The Beatles
6. What's Going On, Marvin Gaye
7. Exile on Main Street, The Rolling Stones
8. London Calling, The Clash
9. Blonde on Blonde, Bob Dylan
10. The Beatles ("The White Album"), The Beatles

Some might think it accurate

Post-modernists might call it a 'dominant story', an attempt to 'colonise' our music tastes, the 'reification' of certain artists over others to create a canon, marginalising hidden artists

The harshist, a most fun, reponse to this list has to come from the book by former Rolling Stone editor, Jim DeRogatis, Kill Your Idols: A New Generation of Rock Writers Reconsiders the Classics. Younger critics are given a voice, one that shreds many of the albums held sacrosanct by RS

What would your own list be ?

What would yout top ten be if you could only chose from Rolling Stones Greatest 500 ?

Here's mine

1 Revolver, The Beatles
2 Astral Weeks, Van Morrison
3 Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan
4 Blue, Joni Mitchell
5 Axis: Bold as Love, The Jimi Hendrix Experience
6 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John
7 Led Zeppelin IV, Led Zeppelin
8 Exile on Main Street, The Rolling Stones
9 Rumours, Fleetwood Mac
10 Harvest, Neil Young
